2012 Workshop is a Huge Hit in Sacramento

The 2012 Workshop last week was a huge success with over 230 industry and agency professionals and staff attending the day and a half workshop on Thursday and Friday.  One of the highlights this year were the changes in format which created better interaction during the breakout sessions.  Whether you were looking to learn about emulsions, asphalt binders, aggregates or putting them all together on a road, there was a session for everyone. In addition to the regular presentations and events this year, there was also some recognition for the founders of the chip seal association that have been members since the inception in 1987.  California Pavement Maintenance, Reed and Graham, and Morgan Paving Materials/Valley Slurry Seal were all honored as "founding member(s) of the CCSA and for their 25 years of continuous membership and support of the association and its founding principles." Quality awards were handed out to Industry and Agency representatives for a total of 5 projects.  The winners were:

  • 2011 Cape Seal Project of the Year to the City of Stockton and International Surfacing Systems
  • 2011 Modified Interlayer Seal Project of the Year to City of Fort Bragg and Intermountain Slurry Seal
  • 2011 Scrub Seal Project of the Year to the County of San Bernardino and Western Emulsions
  • 2011 Modified Binder Chip Seal Project of the Year to Caltrans District 3 and Windsor Fuel Company
  • 2011 Slurry Seal Project of the Year to Caltrans District 6 and Valley Slurry Seal

The last and most prestigious award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, went to one of the founding father's and a most deserving individual, Gordon Rayner of California Pavement Maintenance.

The 2013 Workshop will be held in San Diego at the Marriott Mission Valley on February 6,7. 
Golf will be at the Riverwalk Golf Course on Feb 5th!
